⏰ I am a 50+ y/o woman and I LOVE using Tiktok for my business.
(Well yes, that is a little hard to admit).
As a female entrepreneur, I have found TikTok to be a fantastic platform for connecting with a wide audience, building my brand, and growing my business.
Here are the top 5things I love about TikTok:
1️⃣ A Platform for Creativity
TikTok is a platform that rewards creativity and originality. As a female entrepreneur, I have been able to express my creativity and showcase my brand in unique ways through engaging video content.
2️⃣ Opportunity for Authenticity
TikTok is a platform that values authenticity over perfection. I love that I can be myself (ahem, messy hair and a baseball cap anyone?) and showcase the behind-the-scenes of my business, without having to worry about a polished image.
3️⃣ Building Community
Through TikTok, I have been able to connect with a community of like-minded individuals who are interested in my niche — creators may be typically young, but there are a surprising amount of ‘Female entrepreneurs 45+’ on Tiktok. Great way to build relationships and grow my brand.
4️⃣ Cost-Effective Marketing
Elbow grease is a low-cost / high-effort endeavor. As a small business owner, marketing can be expensive. Making short-form vids for TikTok provides a cost-effective way to market my business to a large audience, without having to break the bank.
5️⃣ Opportunity to be an Outlier
I usually advise clients to initially pick a social media platform that is intuitive to their audience. To ‘fish where the fish are’. For me, that often feels like LinkedIn.
Secondly, I love to do something unexpected—to be an outlier on a platform that might not make a lot of sense off the bat.
TikTok provides an opportunity to be an outlier and stand out in an unexpected place. A great example of this is a favorite creator of mine, Miss Excel, ( Kat Norton ) a data analyst. Imagine teaching Excel on TikTok and making it compelling! M.E. has gained a magnificent following on by providing bite-sized tips and tricks on how to use Excel in fun and engaging ways.
Full disclosure: I am trying not to be tone-deaf to the challenges that Tiktok provides. Like most socials, it must be used responsibly and with guardrails.
But the optimist in me sees opportunity. By embracing the platform's values of authenticity, creativity, and originality, I have been able to connect with a wider audience and build a successful business, (and have fun while doing it — no silly dancing required).
